The postmodernism of Rick Santorum

Ian Buruma likens the worldview espoused by Rick Santorum and his followers to that of the postmodern theorists who essentially believe that objective truth is an illusion. While this philosophy is something that can be intelligently debated in the literary or academic world, this type of thinking is dangerous in the political realm – especially when the people who hold this worldview, like Mr. Santorum and his supporters, hold it for the wrong reasons.

It also raises even deeper questions when it comes to political debate: what kind of evidence or logic could be used to change someone’s mind if the person doesn’t believe in evidence or logic? How could you prove something to someone who doesn’t believe in concept of proof? Unfortunately for those of us in the reality-based community, it’s essentially a conversation stopper.
