A letter-writer in today’s Globe & Mail claims that, unlike the US, North Korea hasn’t invaded any country since the 1953 armistice and we therefore shouldn’t be concerned about its evil intentions. Well, I can think of one country it has invaded and brutally occupied ever since: North Korea itself.
Consider the fact that the authoritarian dictatorship has intentionally starved and tortured millions of its own people to death, while the remaining 24 million souls still living there, essentially as prisoners, must suffer through their bleak Orwellian existence by offering endless praise to the very men who orchestrated these crimes.
So, yes, people have every reason to be worried about the intentions of their newly appointed dictator, especially when one considers that he has access to nuclear weapons.
