Just when I thought that the beliefs of religious leaders couldn’t possibly get anymore strident or arrogant, Pope Benedict has the chutzpah to scold the developed world for looking down on Africa “with the judgmental tone of a moralizer” and for “imposing rules” instead of finding lasting solutions to the continent’s problems.
Consider the fact that, even to this day, the Pope’s own organization is exacerbating the HIV/AIDS epidemic by actively preaching the “sinfulness” of condoms in some of the areas that are most affected by the disease. Now consider the truly moral and non-judgmental actions of secular organizations such as Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders that are working hard to find lasting and pragmatic solutions to the problem. Perhaps the pope should take his own advice before passing judgment on others.
