Margaret Wente wants us to believe that prayer is just as effective (or ineffective) as medicine. Why? Apparently because new evidence from medical studies can disprove previous findings.
But I find it ironic that, in trying to persuade the reader that medical studies aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, Ms. Wente provides examples. In other words, she tries to provide evidence to prove evidence isn’t really important. Yes, certain scientific findings can be disproved. But that’s the beauty of the scientific method. The antidote isn’t to do less science – it’s to do better science.
